HAYFORK — A possible propane tank explosion this morning injured three people in a mobile home in Hayfork.

Emergency crews asked for helicopters to haul the people from the home on Brady Road to Redding at about 11 a.m., but thick smoke kept the choppers on the ground, said Sharon Roesch, a spokeswoman for the interagency team managing the Lime Complex of Fires in Trinity County and southwestern Shasta County.

"The injured parties were transported by ground ambulance to Redding," she said.

Names of the people were unavailable so it wasn't possible to check their condition at the hospital.

Roesch said the fire was not related to wildfires burning near the town of about 2,300 in Trinity County.

"We think it had to do with the propane system," she said.

A California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Engine also was  called to the fire, but the lead in handling the fire was the Hayfork Volunteer Fire Department, said Linda Galvan, Cal Fire spokeswoman.

"It was pretty much all done when (the engine) got there," she said.

The Hayfork Volunteer Fire Department is investigating the fire and withholding any details about it until the investigation is completed, a department spokesman said. The department's chief was unavailable for comment.
